Before You Begin

Confirm that your student membership is current and gather all required supporting materials before starting the application.

Open Application
Submit the completed application by May 1. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  1. Access the Student Scholarship Online Application.
  2. Log in with your TAHPERD Member Portal username and password.
  3. Select Start Award Application.
  4. Follow each menu prompt and upload the required materials.
  5. Review and submit the completed application by May 1.

Required Application Materials

Prepare the following materials before beginning your submission.

  • Current TAHPERD student membership
  • Current transcript
  • Department Chair letter verifying full-time enrollment and HPERD major
  • Two faculty letters addressing academic and professional qualifications
  • One recommendation from outside the academic program addressing personal qualifications
  • Statement of professional goals
  • List of college activities
  • List of community activities and volunteer work
  • List of offices held
  • List of honors

Eligibility Requirements

The Foundation may award up to three $3,000 scholarships annually to eligible undergraduate and graduate TAHPERD student members.

Academic & Enrollment Requirements

  • Maintain at least a 2.5 overall GPA.
  • Be enrolled full time, as defined by the university.
  • Remain in the same program for both fall and spring semesters during the award year and the following academic year.
  • Pursue a degree in health education, physical education, recreation, and/or dance at a Texas college or university.
  • Provide a Department Chair letter confirming the student’s major and full-time status.

Membership & Convention Requirements

  • Be a current TAHPERD student member.
  • Continue membership through the following year if selected.
  • Attend the TAHPERD Annual Convention during the award year.
  • Participate in recognition at the First General Session.
  • Attend the Friday Awards Dinner for the formal certificate and check presentation.
Proof of full-time enrollment for the upcoming fall and spring semesters must be provided before scholarship payment.

Scholarship Benefits

Undergraduate and graduate scholarship recipients receive:

One scholarship payment is issued in August. The second payment is presented at the Friday Awards Dinner during the TAHPERD Annual Convention.

Selection & Notification

The Foundation Committee selects scholarship recipients. All applicants will be notified no later than June 30. Recipients are recognized at the First General Session of the Annual Convention, with the formal scholarship presentation taking place during the Friday Awards Dinner.
